Hi Paul I've tried walking round house but after a bit I get pains in my lower back and right hip how long will my back be like this for ?

Mum thinks I just need to rest for a few days and take painkillers , her back has done this in the past and it took a week or so to feel ok again .

Don't know if its worth going to A&E as I will probably wait for hours and then be told to rest and take painkillers , will see how I feel later

I find Butrans patches 10mgs work really well for me. I get this fairly often and it's probably due to the weight of the cast/brace. Once the patches get into your system you don't try to hold your back unnaturally and the pain goes. See what your GP says. Hope you manage some sleep tonight.

Medical advice on back pain has changed lately. My neighbour suffers from a bad back and the last time he had a problem he expected to be told to take pain killers and bed rest as before , but was told to exercise it instead! :(

It would depend on the type of pain and the reason for it. Trapped nerves or disk problems could be exacerbated by exercise of any kind. Hence my reason for recommending you s speak to your GP. Take care, Sophie.

Ok, I think you can get rogue blood results
Once, years ago my ESR was 5.
The silly billy nurse smiled and said I must be cured-

Had I taken on the bee sting therapy?

But the next blood I was back doing my ESR thing of mid 30s. I'd had ra for a couple of years by then and I was suss, even then!

And suddenly I wasn't cured after all.

Also
There's a process of inflammation that chews joints. That process in RA means joints get chewed
There's chemistry in that joint that has been set off by time having all that corrupted ra chemistry in there
Even when the ra isn't rushing through your blood, the processes of damage to that joint are now in process.

Thirdly
It might be an infection or something else like a bursar injury.
These things need medical eyes- you know how to access this

I do find the blood tests give a guide. But that's all. Sometimes I've felt awful and bloods pretty good and other times felt ok ish and the ESR /CRP have shot up

I understand a good rheummy does consider test results but considers the patient first

Hi just back from hospital

They think that the hip and now back pain is being caused by knee so I have got to get my knee done sooner , rang surgeons secretary to try and bring appt forward , told to keep taking pain killers

Elbow has been x rayed ,

Trying to be positive ,thinking what it will be like once knee is done and i can go for walks with my son in park Smile

Also told to loose weight ( no worries now as I think weight will fall off me as I'm scared of ops Scared )

Hi Sophie

Having that knee replaced will drastically improve your hip and back pain which will help your quality of life.

Keeping positive will really help you get through all the op and recovery, just keep focusing on the end result, enjoying life with your lovely son, it will be worth it.

Best of luck with the surgeon, you've been through it once, the second knee is never as bad....

Love

Hi Sophie

Lovely to see you still posting my friend but so sorry to hear of current problems. Hope things start to settle down soon and the prospect of the op isn't freaking you out too much. Unfortunately surgery is a necessary evil for some of us but pecker up chuck it invariably is never as bad as we think it's going to be. Think of all the pain free days afterwards! Be positive Sophie, it's an opportunity for a new start with better health.

Take care

Lyn xx
